Celebrate good times - come on!!

Updated: 21 minutes ago

Sorry if I have given you an earworm now 🙂.

Recently, I’ve been reflecting on how important it is to notice what has gone well — and to actually celebrate it!

Many of us are busy, moving from one thing to the next, and think we only need to celebrate the big stuff, but what about those things we do in our everyday lives? How can we really bring attention to these everyday things that are easy to dismiss? Can we cultivate a habit of celebration that values the smaller achievements?

For me, being self-employed isn’t always easy. There’s the uncertainty of income, the endless admin, the temptation to compare myself to other teachers, or to focus on what I haven’t done yet. When I pause and celebrate what has happened, something shifts. It opens my heart and reminds me why I love sharing yoga.

When I reflect on the year so far, I can feel proud: busy classes and workshops, retreats planned for the year ahead, finding better ways to manage admin, and remembering to look after myself too: walks, saunas, time with friends, and enjoying sunsets (picture from Brighton Pier).

So, how is it to pause and write down what you have done? It doesn’t need to be about work — maybe you made a friend a birthday cake, helped someone in the street, supported a charity, smiled at someone on the street (I am still smiling about how I passed someone on my bike last week and they gave me the biggest smile - it really stayed with me).

Once we start to notice these moments, they begin to flow, and when we reflect on what’s gone well, we can also do something to celebrate — cook your favourite meal, take a walk in the woods, call a friend, or simply take a quiet moment for appreciation.

Over time, this can become a habit.

Pausing to recognise how many things we do well every day can bring a sense of encouragement and gratitude. It reminds us that life isn’t only about striving for the next thing, or dreaming about what’s always just over the horizon. It’s about noticing what is already here. Not ignoring the challenges, but allowing space to acknowledge what is going well alongside them.

I’d love to hear from you - what are you celebrating today?
