As we move into the winter months, my classes will focus on ways to nourish ourselves during this season. One transformative tool is the practice of gratitude and appreciation in daily life and on the yoga mat.
When stress builds, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or stuck in negativity. Gratitude offers a way to shift our perspective, helping us feel more grounded and steady.
Why Gratitude Works
Research shows that gratitude has significant benefits:
Boosts Mood: Gratitude activates brain areas tied to reward and releases dopamine and serotonin, which help reduce stress.
Improves Mental Health: Studies show it lowers anxiety and depression. Even simple acts like writing a gratitude list can have lasting effects.
Builds Resilience: Gratitude helps shift focus from what’s wrong to what’s working, making challenges feel more manageable.
Gratitude in Yoga
We can bring gratitude onto the mat through mindfulness and connection. During practice, we reflect on what we appreciate—our breath, the movement of our body, our community, or the moments we spend fully present. This then creates a ripple effect, influencing how we approach the rest of our day, week, or even life.
I’m grateful for you taking the time to read this. Feel free to share something you’re grateful for—I’d love to hear from you.
